1. Road legality and licences
Do I need a licence?
Yes, for the road-legal models. The Light Bee L1e does 45 km/h, gets a yellow plate and needs category A1, available from age 15. The Ultra Bee is an L3e, gets a white plate and also needs A1, here from 16. The Light Bee X and Hyper Bee are off-road only.
Is my category B car licence enough?
No. Since 1 April 2003, category B covers only category M for two-wheelers, meaning mopeds up to 30 km/h. You need category A1. If you got your car licence before that date, A1 may already be on it. Category AM, often quoted online, is an EU category and does not apply here. Your cantonal Strassenverkehrsamt explains how to obtain A1.
Can I ride the off-road models on the street?
No. They come without mirrors, indicators or a Certificate of Conformity and cannot be registered. You may ride them on private property, motocross tracks and designated off-road parks.Â
Does tuning make it illegal?
Yes. Removing the speed limiter or mechanically altering the motorcycle voids its road legality and your insurance. Your Findoak warranty ends immediately.
Who registers the vehicle?
These are two different steps, and we do the first one. We handle the import formalities and present the vehicle for its technical inspection, so it is approved for Swiss roads. The Einlösung is yours: you register the vehicle in your own name at your cantonal Strassenverkehrsamt, which issues the Fahrzeugausweis and the number plates. Arrange your insurance first, because the office only hands over the plates once your insurer has sent it the electronic proof of insurance. You get the vehicle documents for that appointment from us. Ask if anything is unclear.
2. Battery, range and charging
What range will I get?
The manufacturer quotes 75 km at 40 km/h for the Light Bee, 50 km at 40 km/h for the Hyper Bee and 115 km at 50 km/h for the Ultra Bee. The manufacturer measures at a constant speed, with a 70 kg rider, at 27 degrees. In practice you will get less, especially riding hard, climbing, or in winter.
How long does charging take?
From 20 to 80 per cent: the Light Bee a little over two hours, the Hyper Bee and Ultra Bee around two and a half. A full charge takes longer, about four and a half hours on the Ultra Bee. You charge from an ordinary household socket.
Can I remove the battery?
Yes, on every model. It lifts out on a carry handle and charges indoors. On the Hyper Bee the swap takes about ten seconds. Mind the weight, particularly on the Ultra Bee. Use both hands and get help if necessary.
How long will the battery last?
Three to five years, reckoned at 800 to 1200 charge cycles. Charge to around 80 per cent day to day and never leave the pack flat. Over winter, store it indoors at 30 to 60 per cent and top it up every couple of months. Always use the charger supplied.
3. Payment, shipping and pickup
What payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard and bank transfer. The full price is due when you order. There is no deposit and no balance to settle later.
Where do you deliver?
Switzerland and Liechtenstein. We transport the bikes ourselves.
Can I collect the vehicle myself?
Yes. Choose local pickup at checkout. Road-legal models are handed over assembled and inspected, ready for the Einlösung. Off-road models can be collected in the box if you prefer. Once the vehicle is ready we will arrange a time in 9240 Uzwil and show you the setup and controls.
4. Warranty and servicing
What does the warranty cover?
The statutory 24 months on material and manufacturing defects. Not covered: normal wear such as brake pads, chains, sprockets and tyres, gradual loss of battery capacity, and damage from accidents or improper maintenance, such as pressure-washing the electronics.
Where can I have my vehicle serviced?
At our workshop in Uzwil. Sur-Rons share many parts with downhill mountain bikes, such as brakes and suspension forks, so a good bike mechanic can handle simple work. Anything involving the battery, motor or controller comes to us.
